It is possible to re-register a cat with a CASA registration number, at the standard cost and by using the standard registration form, but not a requirement and the exception, rather than the rule.

CASA – New Breeders: Mentor
From 2022, CASA requires all new breeders, who register a cattery for the first time, to have a formal mentor who will guide and support them in all aspects of cat breeding & exhibiting. The registrar is unable to mentor new breeders due to time restrictions and all questions regarding breeding, registering, including the paperwork should be directed to the mentor. Only if the mentor is unable to find the relevant information, should the mentor approach the registrar for information.
The requirements for a mentor include the following, but is not restricted to:
- Breeding experience for a minimum of two years.
- Current valid membership of CASA.
- WCF cattery registration for a minimum of two years.
- Registration of at least one litter during the past two years.
- Show experience by means of owning at least one cat with a CASA or Independent show title of SA Grand Premier/Champion.
- Knowledge and understanding of the EMS breed code system.
- Knowledge and understanding of all the relevant application forms for CASA and Independent clubs, including membership application, litter registration, transfer of cats & show entries. Checking of all forms completed by new breeders, before sending to the Registrar or Show manager.
- Knowledge and understanding of Feline husbandry, healthcare and problem solving, including birthing, weaning and raising of kittens.
- Availability to reply to all questions and enquiries from the new breeder and guidance of where to find information, saving time for the Registrar.
- The mentor must have enough time and resources available to provide the necessary physical and emotional support as needed by the new breeder, especially during times of trouble, which is inevitable for breeders.
- If a mentor withdraws or fails to provide the necessary mentorship within a two-year period after the new breeder joined CASA, a new mentor must be provided by the breeder in order to remain a breeder member. The new mentor must be qualified according to the same rules as above.
- Mentors may accept more than one new breeder as mentor and new breeders may be under the mentorship of more than one mentor.
